The response we received certainly proved that many of you love nothing more than ending a dog walk at a good pub that welcomes both you and your (possibly wet and muddy) best friend. That has prompted us to write this blog post to share with you some of our favourite dog friendly pubs, but also in the hope that you will share some of your own as well!
So, here are a few of our favourites to start things off, but we're sure some of you will want to share your own suggestions and experiences too, so please send them in and we'll keep updating this list! There are some great websites such as Doggie Pubs & Dog Friendly which list many pubs, but we want to hear about your own favourites - you can either comment on this article below, email us, tweet us or post on our Facebook page!
The Hand in Hand, Wimbledon, SW19 4RG
Nestled on the edge of world-famous Wimbledon Common, the Hand in Hand is ideally situated for a post walk drink, especially after some hard Womble-searching. With open fires and plenty of cosy nooks & crannies as well as outdoor areas, the Hand in Hand is as good a winter pub as it is a summer one and it's not uncommon to find dogs snoozing under most tables whilst their owners enjoy a Sunday roast!
The Nightingale, Balham, SW12 8NX
An ideal watering hole for the urban-hound; The Nightingale sits on Nightingale Lane, Balham midway between Wandsworth and Clapham Commons, two of south London's favourite dog walking spots. With dogs welcome both inside the pub itself and in the garden it's an ideal stop-off on the way home from a good walk.
The Sportsman, Mogador, KT20 7ES
Another hidden gem, tucked away at the end of a lane on the edge of Walton Heath, The Sportsman dates back to 1532 and it certainly feels a world away from modern life and yet is only minutes away from Junction 8 of the busy M25, making it an ideal dog-friendly alternative to the motorway services. It's also a great spot to start or finish a walk across Walton Heath, or to break a walk along Reigate & Colley Hills on the North Downs ridge.
The Ramblers Rest, Coulsdon, CR5 3NP
With fantastic dog walks through the Chipstead Valley and neighbouring Banstead Woods right on it's doorstep, The Ramblers Rest is in a perfect spot for a dog-friendly pub and on most weekends you may need to step over at least a couple of snoozing hounds to reach the bar! Blends a modern gastro-pub style with a traditional cosy & welcoming country pub.
Now send us your favourites and we'll add them to the list!
